The leaves are changing, the pumpkins are growing, and for those of you in the northern hemisphere, it’s starting to officially feel like Fall. If you’re ready to bring the season of pumpkin spice into your Gather office, we’ve got a variety of ways you can customize your office and engage your team.
- Place warm-toned trees.
- Decorate with pumpkins.
- Create a hay bale maze.
- Place spooky decorations in your Space.
- Celebrate Day of the Dead.
- Prepare a virtual Thanksgiving feast.
- Host a Halloween party.
Note: For most of these tips, you’ll need to have an Admin or Builder role so you can access the Object Picker or use the Mapmaker. Read more about user permissions here.
1. Place warm-toned trees.
Time for the leaves to turn! To make your office feel more like fall, we recommend placing warm-toned trees of orange, yellow, and red.
To find these in the Object Picker, you can either search for “Tree” or select the Autumn category on the left.
You’ll see several varieties of trees. Select one, and then choose the orange (or red or yellow) color option in the Object Details panel on the right. Place it on your map, and voila! You’ve got a fall-themed forest near your digital desk.
2. Decorate with pumpkins.
If you’ve ever wanted to work in a pumpkin patch, now’s your chance! You’ll find a variety of pumpkin sizes and colors in the Object Picker.
Place a few throughout your space as nice fall decor, or go all out and build a full pumpkin patch complete with seating areas. Who knows, this could be your new All Hands “room” for the season!
3. Create a hay bale maze.
Hay bales pair perfectly with the pumpkins you just placed, and provide a fall-themed seating option.
To take it to the next level, consider building a hay bale maze in your space. Use it as an ice breaker or team activity to see who can make it to the other side first.
To do this, you’ll need to place the hay bale Objects and Impassable tiles under them – otherwise you’ll be able to run right through them.
And don’t forget you can embed links, images, or videos in objects throughout the maze for a little extra spooky fun!
4. Place spooky decorations in your Space.
Beyond seasonal fall decorations, you’ll discover spookier objects to make all of your haunted office dreams come true.
There are gravestones to build a cemetery, everything a witch could need, garlic to ward off vampires, and more.
Pro-tip: Can’t find the decoration you’re looking for? Try uploading your own Custom Objects. It’s a great way to fully customize your office and celebrate some of your favorite fall themes!
5. Celebrate Day of the Dead.
Place an Ofrenda, decorate with Calaveras (sugar skulls), and hang papel picados in your office. You’ll find several Día de los Muertos objects by searching in the object picker.
This is a great opportunity to get to know your teammates while honoring their families. Plan a team social and encourage everyone to share one person from their family that inspires them.
6. Prepare a virtual Thanksgiving feast.
If you open up the Object Picker, you’ll find all the essentials for a Thanksgiving dinner: Turkey, cornbread, and large tables to accommodate your entire work family.
These objects make for great decor, but you can also use them to facilitate a fall-themed team activity. To celebrate everyone’s culture, you could encourage people to join the table and share a dish that’s special to them. Think of it like a show-n-tell Thanksgiving potluck!
Bonus points if you let people place their own food objects on the table with a link embed to a recipe. 😋
7. Host a Halloween party.
Encourage your team to dress up in real life and in Gather, and explore all the new decorations throughout the office!
To dress your avatar in a costume, go to the Character Customization screen and select Special > Seasonal. You’ll find a variety of costumes to choose from, including different color options.
We highly recommend hosting a dance party while your avatars wear the seasonal costumes. You might just discover some new dance moves!
Pro-tip: To dance, press ‘z’ on your keyboard.
